Autumn Statement to Take Place November 22nd

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to present his Autumn Statement and the OBR's economic forecasts in 11 weeks time.

HM Treasury has today announced the date for Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to deliver his 2023 Autumn Statement. In around eleven weeks time, on November 22nd, Hunt will provide his Autumn Statement and relay the forecasts on the state of the economy as prepared by the Office for Budget Responsibility.

This is Hunt's second Autumn Statement, following on from last year's scathing Autumn Statement 2022, where major decisions on tax cuts were reversed as widespread tax rises and spending cuts were brought in.

This year the gas and electricity cost crisis is showing signs of easing and the energy price cap has been lowering though there is said to be volatility in that situation and the lower cap cannot be promised. The Chancellor however won't be worrying about that as the government support for energy prices ended earlier this year - a situation that he had to price into his plans 12 months ago.

The statement is hopefully not going to announce any new tax changes and the Chancellor will likely continue to rely on the fiscal drag effect of frozen thresholds he is enjoying - pushing growing numbers of taxpayers into higher tax brackets.

We will as usual cover the announcements on the date, but also update with any leaked information beforehand and provide tools to help you with your tax planning.
