I would like to see car allowance in, with the 40 or 20 %

Dave Elliott - 13/07/2012 16:53:40

If you have an additional allowance which is taxed as regular salary, but excluded from pension contributions - such as a car allowance or other BIK, please enter the amount of allowance/BIK into the 'Other Allowances/Deductions' box - so for a £3,000 car allowance you would enter '-3000' into the 'Other Allowances/Deductions' box. This will result in a additional £3,000 being accounted for tax - but excluded from your pension.

I receive foreign dividends and need to be clear on how this income is taxed in the UK

annual bonus doesn't work - I'd expect a spike in tax when the bonus is paid, levelling over the yr

Stuart Maccormack - 30/05/2012 10:15:16

There are two ways in which you can check the tax on a bonus. If you are using the main tax calculator, enter your bonus and you will see the same tax calculation as normal (without bonus) on the results table, scroll down the page to the 'Your Bonus' section to see the additional tax and national insurance due on the bonus you enter. You can also use the payslip calculator to check month by month pay and enter your bonus in there to see the spike in tax collected on that particular pay cycle.

At 67 I pay no NI yet your calculations show payment

Pat Brown - 28/05/2012 12:14:42

You need to tick the SPA box when entering your details into the tax calculator. SPA means State Pension Age. At 67 you are at State Pension Age. Due to changing state pension ages we had to implement a separate pension age calculator, which works off your date of birth. Hope that helps, i'll email you now too.
